Game 66 Scores Empty Game 66 Scores

Wed Feb 28, 2024 3:09 pm
Well Gentlemen, this season was many things. It certainly was many things, but one thing you could not call it was boring, or dull.

Case and point is how the last game of the year could potentially end with there being 4 teams tied for the 8th playoff spot. ‘Mind blasting!’ as the wise and oft misquoted Russell Peters would surely agree.

In typical 2024 season fashion, Game 66 very much delivered on all the pre-game hype with some shocking results and downright entertaining beatings.

Without further ado, lets get to the game results and the final regular season standings to see where all the dust settled.

3 Stars:
Josi 2G 1A
Nyquist 1G 2A
Montour 1G 2A

The first bout of the night was between the Doctors and the Dutchies. The Witch Doctors came into this one looking to decide their own playoff fate and came out swinging. Right from puck drop, the Doctors came out scoring points up and down the lineup. The President Trophy winning Dutchies had no reason to put up a fight and wanted to ensure his players did not sustain any injuries with the upcoming playoffs. Witch Doctors send their potential playoff opponent a clear message: Witches give stitches! Doctors take this one in convincing fashion 7 to 3.5.

Another team on the brink of both playoff birth and elimination is the Belfast Flash. Their opponents the Foundation had nothing to play for but pride and his role as potential dream crusher. The Flash got contributions from several players and looked to be in good shape for the first half of the game. Then the Foundation busted out the waiver wire crew of Rakell and Bertuzzi. One look at these two monsters sent the Flash into retreat, leaving the rink wide open for the Foundation to do as they please. Have their way the Foundation did, which was huge considering they were struggling to produce as of late. The Foundation waltz into the playoffs on a high note, while the Flash can do nothing but wait and see how his other opponents fare on the evening. Will he make it into the post-season dance? We shall see… Foundation win this one 4.5 to 2.

A moment of silence for our good friend Al who’s last game night in the AHL was fittingly against his good friend the Oles in an unofficial ‘carrying on of the torch’ game. Al, thanks for being a worthy opponent and a pillar in the AHL for a while. Your contribution to this league will forever be remembered and appreciated by the other managers. Cheers big guy! Oles take this game 3-0.

Game 3 had the Posse who were now cemented in 2nd place versus the Sting who were guaranteed a playoff birth with a victory. The Sting came out hot and heavy being led by the multiple-point performances of the Tkachuk brothers. Unfortunately, all the hard work was undone by their choice to select the Leafs and in turn, the frequently swiss-cheese resembling Samsonov as their temp goalies. Posse’s firepower was just too much for the Sting to contend with. Posse win 3.5 to 2.5.

It feels like every game tonight features a team on the precipice. Funny enough, this game also featured a team on the precipice; the V Bombers. The Bombers drew perhaps the hottest team in the AHL right now Mr. Joe Kickass. The Bombers were the fortunate recipients of Montour’s career game putting up 3 points. Unfortunately for the Bombers though, he was the only one who showed up for this important game. Noone else did for him and not even his typical dynamic duo of Hughes and Miller in Vancouver could pull his ass out of this sh%& storm! The Kickass beat the crap out of the Bombers 8 to 1.5. Looks like we might be going into a playoff of some sort for that eighth playoff spot!

The last team holding onto hope for a playoff birth are the Wai’s Guys. Will this be the first time a team with #97 fail to make the playoffs? Wai was on the outside looking into the playoff picture coming into this with 64 points to the 66 points the 8th placers held in front of him. His potential playoff birth was in his hands as well. The Avs had nothing to play for as their spot in the standings was already cemented, but he admitted that he wouldn’t mind playing playoff spoiler either. Wai got contributions from half of his team and a paltry -1 from his FLA goalies. He was in great shape, but the Avs had several players who enjoyed multi-point games. The Wai are officially eliminated as the Avs walk away with a 4.5 to 2.5 victory.

Again, the regular season was a blast Gents. Let’s see how the playoffs shake out. Cheers!

Thanks for a great season everyone!

I think I move on to 8th for the tie-breaker, I think play-in was just for 4 teams tied.

We tied season series 3-3, I outscored Flash 24-18

Due to our rules, and the fact that only 2 teams finished tied for the last playoff spot, we will not be doing a play in.  We will be suggesting play in format for next year to be added to the rules.

Tie Breaker 1 - season series between Bombers and Flash finished 3-3
Tie Breaker 2 - Season wins - VB's 33 Flash 32 - VB's win
Tie Breaker 3 - Head to Head total scores - VB 24 Flash 18

V Bombers take the 8th spot

Mach ups for the QF:
(1) Dutchies vs ( 8 ) V Bombers
(2) Posse vs (7) Sting
(3) Foundation vs (6) Doctors
(4) Avs vs (5) Kickass

Playoffs start next Tuesday March 5

Good luck to all the playoff teams, and great season to all those who didn't make it.

JP,  you might want to double check your scoring formulas for the playoffs.  The final score in the Dutchies / Doctors game was 5.5 to 4.5 for the Doctors LOL
