Proposals for next year Empty Proposals for next year

Mon Mar 22, 2021 10:29 pm
Here are my proposals:

1) Allow the trading of protected roster players during the season - In a 10 team league, the majority of protected players are top end talent, and low cost. Allowing these players to be included in trades will help with the following:
A) Allow teams to rebuild quicker
B) Allow teams that are going for it to add value to the trade, as opposed to adding players many do not consider value, but still cost a lot of pool dollars in the draft
C) Many of these players gain value through their year on the protected roster. Just look at Byram, Drysdale, Robertson and Wahlstrom this year. We should allow these players to be used as pieces to be used to improve or rebuild our teams
D) This is our "farm system". The NHL trades farm system players all the time, so why shouldn't we.

In this proposal, the following would be the rule:
- Each team can only come out of the draft with up to 2 protected spots (like we currently sit)
- If a protected player is traded in season, he stays on the protected roster
- The active roster remains at 30, no matter how many or few protected players you have. In essence, by seasons end, one team in the league could have 30 active players and 20 protected roster spots (though extremely unlikely).

Taking the asset that is a protected player will help managers make trades more even and more often, adding value into teams and into the pool in general.

2) As long as we sit at 10 teams, we increase the max trade amount to $7.50, and we drop the floor to $45. The reason for this is simple: We've removed 60 roster spots and 4 protected roster spots from the league. Every team has more valuable players that they did when we were in a 12 team league. It will also be easier to rebuild a team quicker with only 10 teams, as there's just more talent available. If we don't do this, a rebuilding team that has money and wants to build for the future can't go out and draft a McDavid, Draisaitl (if he ever leaves the Posse), Matthews, or Kane, because they'll never be able to trade them due to their value being too high. Same goes for guys like Panarin at a $4.50 contract or a Stone at $3. The return would have to be huge on the player side, along with $5. If / when we move back to 12 teams we can re-address.

I believe these 2 changes will have an extremely positive impact on the pool. This has been a very successful "test year" for us. We've overcome a lot of scheduling changes and adaptation to a much changed environment both in life and this pool, and we've done it with minimal to no bickering or infighting. I commend you all for that.

Would love to hear everyone's thoughts, ideas and opinions. Cause that's how we do things now.
