Game 41 saw some key match ups, tough losses and a tightening of the standings between 4th and 11th. Let's get to it:
In the battle for first, the Dutchies and Foundation faced off for sole possession of first. Dutchies lead the season series 2-0 coming into the game, and wanted to put some distance between themselves and their worthy foe. It was the battle of the bulge and on this night, the Dutchies proved that the Foundations bulge was above the belt while theirs was below. Dutchies tie for high boy with a 7-4 victory. RNH (after his Pasta beating the night before) lead the charge for the Foundation, but 2 goals a piece by Svech and Nylander were too much for them to handle.
The other highboy of the night was one of the preseason favorites. The Wai's Guys are hoping this is a turning point this season as their $23 superstar leads the way with a goal and 4 assists to annihilate the Witch Doctors 7 to 2.5. The Doctors tried to pull out all the spells they could muster, but a pregame chant coming from the Wai's Guys locker room before the game put up a ring of protect that lasted all night. "The power of McDavid compels you!" "The power of McDavid compels you!" Wai's Guys now sit only 2 points out of a playoff spot.
The Flash have been on a heater as of late, and their "gimme games" come at the perfect time. The put up a respectable 3.5 and defeat the Hackers to also move within 2 points of a playoff spot.
In the closest game of the night, the V Bees and Avalanche put on a show. The Hyman heroics (1,2) were undone by a -1 goaltending differential, and the Avs were able to squeak out a 3.5 to 2.5 victory thanks to balanced scoring a better goaltending. The Avs also move within one point of 4th place, while the VB's continue to sit in a tie for the final playoff spot.
After missing his line up the previous game, Joe Kickass was determined to put in a performance for the ages to make up for it. Unfortunately he forgot the inform his goalies who put up a dreadful -3 on the night, leaving him only half a point to the positive. But as luck would have it, his opponent for the night was still on a bender from New Years Eve and forgot to put in a line up himself. Final score was 0.5 to 0 with Kickass moving into a tie for the final playoff spot, defeating the Sting.
Finally, two teams trending in opposite directions faced off. One was hoping to continue his streak, the other looking to break their own. But the AHL gods decided to keep the status quo as the Posse defeated the Oles 5 to 1.5 to push the winning streak to 8 while the Oles are mired in a 5 game winless streak. Pettersson did all he could with 2 goals, but the were no match for the Posse lead by the 3 assists of Mason Raymond.

First Star - McDavid with his 5 point night inching the Wai's Guys closer to the playoffs
Second Star(s) - Willie and the Svech each posting 2 goals to keep the Dutchies in first
Third Star - Mason Raymond for leading the way in a balanced attack with 3 assists
Honorable mention goes to MacKinnon for the Kickass, who put up a goal and 2 assists shooting into an empty net
