Quarter Final Game 2 Empty Quarter Final Game 2

Tue Mar 07, 2023 7:15 pm
Game 2 was a very short game night seeing only 6 NHL games on the evening.  Even though the scores seemed to be reflective of said short game night, upon closer inspection, the driving force behind most low scores were not team’s inabilities to score, but rather, their poor choices in temped goalies.  Odds are, if you temped a goalie on this game night, the most attractive choices on paper turned out to be a kick to the nether regions to your overall tally.   If you temped a goalie, was your team strong enough to overcome some serious adversity?  Let’s see…

3 Stars:

McDavid 2G
Kempe 1G 1A (Game winner for both of his teams)
Sandin 1G 1A

1 Oles Vs. 8 Kickass

Our first victim of the ‘Temped Goalie Nutshot’ are the Kickass.  It’s not like they scored much regardless, but in all fairness, it’s hard to score when you can barely walk.  It feels like as long as Oles have 97 in the lineup, they’re spotted a 2 score out of the gate.  Even though Winnipeg let in a few goals, it didn’t matter.  Ole’s crew of steady Eddies outscore the Kickass’ crew of unskilled labourers and win the co-highboy to boot.  In an easy victory, the Oles smash the Kickass 4 to 0.5.

Oles leads series 2-0

2 Foundation Vs. 7 Flash

The second recipient of the temp beating were the Foundation.  The Flash took an early lead and held onto it for the whole night until the last game of the evening and more specifically, the last 3 goals in said game.  With a late goal from the ‘Great 8’ and 1 and 1 from Kempe, the Foundation leap frog over the Flash to their second victory.  Overcoming a -2.5 from their Ottawa goalies, the Foundation end with a score of 2 to the Flash’s -0.5.

Foundation leads series 2-0

3 Hackers Vs. 6 Doctors

Hackers were the only beneficiary of having successfully temped the Kings resulting in a mere -1.  The Dcotors on the other hand temped the tempting Stars who put the Witchy ones behind the 8 ball, making it look like the Hackers were going to take the second game as well.  Fortunately for the Doctors, the Hacker offence was anemic having got a few small contributions from some of their players.  The Doctors however, laughed all the way to the bank as unlikely heroes like Schmidt, Arvidsson and Weegar put up big scores.  When that happens, not even a -2.5 can hold you back.  The Doctors even up the series taking this one by a score of 4 to 2.5.

Series tied 1-1

4 Dutchies Vs. 5 Sting

Not to be outdone by the other managers who temped poorly, the Dutchies went with the surging Sens, who handed Dutchies a solid -2.5 to start with.  In fairness, the Sting also temped the Stars so, the playing field was leveled with Dallas’ -2.5 as well. This game would come down to the players…of which, not many showed up for the Dutchies.  With contributions from a paltry 3 players, the Sting could be heard saying ‘hold my beer son’.  The Sting get contributions from half of their team which, in itself isn’t super impressive, but 4 of those 5 players scored a 1 or higher.  The Sting take this one 2.5 to -0.5 and suddenly the favourite have become the underdog

Sting leads series 2-0
