Quarter Finals Game 1 Empty Quarter Finals Game 1

Wed Mar 06, 2024 8:43 pm
Welcome to the 2024 AHL Playoffs where the men will be separated from the boys.

Will there be any upsets this year?  It’s quite possible, especially given how the regular season was so tight amongst all of the combatants.

Will the clock strike 12 before the teams on Cinderella runs turn into pumpkins? Who Knows!

Either way, things will be exciting.

Let’s go to the results of game 1:

3 Stars: Any Dallas Star as they likely carried your team to victory

Dutchies vs. 8. V. Bombers

The President’s trophy winners were licking their chops when they drew this matchup.  The Bombers who are building for next year’s run surely won’t care about the outcome of this series, so the series should be a stroll in the park for the Dutchies, right?  The Dutchies came out with their engines revving. O’Rielly put up a solid 2 goals early in the evening and it looked like the Dutchies might run away wit hit early.  Further compounding the issue were the Bombers’ goalies putting up a -3 compared to the Dutchies’ -0.5.  The Bombers were not to be counted out though, with balanced scoring up and down their lineup.  The Bombers looked like they were cruising to victory until the Petterson one buried a late goal giving the Dutchies the win 3.5 to 3.

Dutchies lead series 1-0

Posse vs.  7. Sting

The runner up in the regular season, the Posse were coming on strong just as the season ended.  The Sting’s lineup looked decent going into this game and at the end of the evening looked like they would be feeling good given they had Hintz who featured on a recently surging Stars team.  Unfortunately for the Sting, the Posse’s Dallas, Heiskanen was bigger than the Sting’s Dallas and that was the game changer.  Heiskanen’s 2 to Hintz’ 1 gave the Posse their first ‘W’ of these playoffs emerging victorious by a score of 4 to 3.5.

Posse lead series 1-0

Foundation vs.   6. Doctors

The Doctors have been an exciting team to watch of late whereas the previous league-leading Foundation seemed to be sputtering and running on fumes having won only 1 of their last 4.  The Foundation lineup on the evening, at least on paper did not inspire confidence and seemed outright inferior to the Doctor’s active team.  When it was said and done, the Doctors only had production from 2 players.  They retained the upper hand in terms of goaltenders with their goalies putting up a -1 to Foundation’s -2, but that’s where the advantage ended. The Foundation was the benefactor of a bunch of noones lead by their new star rookie Logan Stankoven (on Dallas of course), putting up a monster 3!  Foundation take game 1 in convincing fashion and are the highboy of the night with the score of 5.5 to 2.5.

Foundation lead series 1-0

Avs vs.   5. Kickass

Coming into the playoffs, I would argue this is the closest series in terms of both teams being somewhat even.  You wouldn’t know it by the score though.  The Kickass come out kicking air and luckily, connect with a whole lot of Avs a@@.  Contributions only came from 4 of their 6 players, but when you have a Dallas Star, particularly on this night, it’s hard to lose.  Wyatt Johnston puts up a monster 4 spot and he alone would’ve been sufficient to put the young, naïve Avs in their place.  Kickass win this game 5 to 1.

Kickass lead series 1-0
